We had the privilege of co-hosting a highly successful pro bono student evening alongside the National Pro Bono Centre, with generous support from Herbert Smith Freehills. The event brought together law students from leading universities across London to engage in meaningful discussions about the pivotal role pro bono work plays in shaping a legal career and advancing access to justice.

The Pro Bono Fair was an inspiring showcase of initiatives from a range of prominent law firms, providing students with valuable opportunities to connect with organisations driving significant change through pro bono work. Our sincere thanks go to Arnold & Porter, Jenner & Block, Simmons & Simmons, Latham & Watkins, Baker McKenzie, Fragomen, Pinsent Masons, A&O Shearman, Joelson, Reed Smith LLP, Charles Russell Speechlys, HFW, Humphries Kerstetter LLP, and Herbert Smith Freehills for their invaluable participation.

The panel discussion, titled “How to Approach Pro Bono in Your Legal Career,” expertly chaired by Lara Nassif, featured distinguished speakers including: Mr Justice Robin Knowles, High Court Judge and Chair of the National Pro Bono Centre; Robert Allen, Partner at Simmons & Simmons; Zeno Frediani, Counsel at Arnold & Porter; and Jessica Tagg, Associate at Reed Smith LLP. The conversation highlighted how engaging in pro bono work not only distinguishes candidates in interviews but also demonstrates core values and facilitates professional growth. As Zeno Frediani aptly remarked, pro bono offers the “best of both worlds” – the opportunity to make a tangible difference while simultaneously advancing one’s career.

We are deeply grateful to Herbert Smith Freehills for hosting the event, and to all participating law firms, panellists, and students. It was truly inspiring to witness the enthusiasm of so many students – the future leaders of the legal profession- leaving the evening motivated to incorporate pro bono work into their careers.
